  We do our business banking here. Our banker is warm and smart and knows us well. I have had pleasant experiences with all of the bank tellers as well.

  A year ago we onto the island. My fiancee and I are a mixed race couple. I have always banked with US Bank and every other bank Ive been to in 4 states Ive lived in, Ive only have pleasant encounters. When updating my info and depositing a check, I came to the older blond woman. She looked at my fiancee and I and openly scoffed, and put on an obvious (not trying hard to hide) smile on her face. "You two arent from the island, are you?" That was a weird comment, but we put it off as because we were new. We had of course been to Vashon a number of times before and even had been to that bank. We told her we just moved from the midwest, and she did not respond. After completing our transaction, she handed me my receipt and actually said "Well, Its all we need here is more new people". It was pretty rude. Vashon is a very open minded, growingly diverse island. I was pretty shocked at the whole encounter. Its rare to find rude people on the island. Over the next year, every time I went into the bank and had her at the counter, she was either utterly silent (no 'hello' or 'thank you') to us, only to be talkative to whomever was before and after us or she'd make snarky comments. Everyone else there was very nice and at least once I noticed a younger girl was openly embarrassed. When we moved off island, I went in to change my address data and deposit a check. I chatted a bit with the younger teller, who asked about how we liked the island. She was really polite, but just at the moment when I stated that my fiancee and I were moving off the island, the older blond, on the other side of the teller desk, totally away from the conversation voiced a loud, openly sarcastic "oh, well isnt that a shame your leaving". The teller I was working with handed me my receipt and visibly turned red in embarrassment. I probably should have made a complaint, but I suppose everyones entitled to their own opinions. Maybe it had little to do with the fact that my fiancee is white and I am not, but that was the only noticeable difference between anyone else in the bank and us, and the woman always responded negatively, each time from the beginning. Just a warning to others. I would give it 4 stars, but even having one person like that really hurts the business.
